Sleepaway Camp at Camp North Star:

For two unforgettable weeks, I had the opportunity to attend Camp North Star, a sleepaway camp that gave me memories I will cherish for a lifetime. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a friendly community where everyone was encouraged to learn, grow, and have fun. The experience taught me independence, teamwork, and confidence while allowing me to make lifelong friendships.

Each morning began with a hearty breakfast followed by exciting activities. Camp North Star offered a wide variety of programs, including swimming, kayaking, archery, arts and crafts, basketball, soccer, and nature exploration. Every activity was led by enthusiastic counselors who encouraged us to try new things and do our best. Whether I was learning a new sport or creating artwork, every day brought a fresh adventure.

One of the best parts of sleepaway camp was living in a cabin with other campers. Sharing responsibilities, keeping our cabin organized, and spending time together helped us build strong friendships. We laughed, played games, and supported one another throughout the two weeks. The counselors made sure everyone felt included, creating a welcoming and positive atmosphere.

Evenings at Camp North Star were just as exciting. We gathered around the campfire for songs, stories, and skits that brought everyone together. There were also talent shows, themed nights, and group games that filled each evening with energy and laughter. These activities helped strengthen the camp community and created memories that will last for years.

Beyond the fun, Camp North Star helped me develop valuable life skills. Being away from home taught me responsibility and independence. I learned how to solve problems, work with others, and step outside my comfort zone. Trying new activities and meeting people from different backgrounds increased my confidence and broadened my perspective.

As the two weeks came to an end, saying goodbye was difficult. I left Camp North Star with new friends, unforgettable experiences, and a greater sense of self-confidence. The camp was much more than just a place for recreation—it was a place where I learned, grew, and discovered new abilities.

Overall, my two-week sleepaway camp experience at Camp North Star was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It combined adventure, friendship, learning, and personal growth in a safe and supportive environment. I will always treasure the memories I made and hope to return again in the future.


Camp North Star is situated in beautiful Poland Spring, Maine, surrounded by many beautiful and natural landscapes that we get to share and enjoy with our campers. Trips are offered every session and happen on the days we are not on our normal activity schedule. Trip days are a time to relax and enjoy time with friends and bunkmates.
